Ted Meyer

THE ARTIST Ted Meyer is an accomplished artist, designer, illustrator, and author. Born with Gaucher’s disease, he spent a great deal of his childhood in the hospital. Much of his work depicts contorted, pained, and highly designed skeletal images. These images were direct representations of his deteriorating medical condition at the time. In recent years, and with the advent of new treatments and joint replacement surgeries, Meyer considers himself to be “pretty much” normal and healthy. Accordingly, his work has shifted from deeply introspective to images that at times highlight other people’s health problems. “The subject matter, color palet, and size of my art all seem to have shifted as my health improved. With the addition of my Scarred for Life series, monoprints of human scars, I now highlight medical effect not only on myself but also on many of the other people I meet.”
